How do you want the final episode(s) to end?
Should it be a quirky, tongue in cheek ending a la Seinfeld & Home Improvement?
Should it be a flashback type ep, similar to The Nanny?
I'm undecided. After the dreaded Season 7 and the mildly repugnant Season 8, I'm not so sure how I want this show to end anymore.
I predict Ray will get a job offer from a high paying newspaper in a faaar away state, and there will be a huge debate about whether they should move or not (you know who will take sides on what in such an issue).
I further predict that such an episode will have brief flashbacks as both sides try to make a case.
I think it has been done before but it would still be fitting for the style of the show.

No comment on “Nanny” and “Home Improvement” since I don’t watch them. I did watch Seinfeld’s final episode and I liked the way how they wove all the major characters and interesting plots from past shows into the series finale. The ending felt incomplete and unsatisfactory – nothing serious- but overall it was quite good.
With regard to ELR, it’s been reported that they've already written the script for the series finale episode, so nothing that happens next season is going to change the story substantially. I agree with Dan that Ray will be offered a lucrative job in the west coast or somewhere far from Lynbrook. That would partly mirror what actually happened to Ray in real-life too. The show is based on him after all. I also think Robert will retire from NYPD and take a job with the FBI and move out of the neighborhood. I think it’ll be an hour-long special and the family will have a big celebratory going away party. At least this is how I’d like the show to end. I just crack up when I read some of the suggestions by ELR fans on this subject- like Ray and Debra divorcing, Debra marrying Robert and other crazy ideas along this line.

The logistics of how Robert would bang Debra are just too weird to contemplate, anyways.

Well, clearly they all should have one sick incestuous orgy and in the sick afterglow realize none of them can look each other in the eye anymore and must all move....
Eww I even grossed myself out with that one.
Seriously tho, Ray and Deb should move, most likely it will be cause Ray gets a job offer. It just seems fitting and makes sense. I think it should be a 2 hour event. Hour one is your clip show and cast commentary type thing followed by the hour long episode which wraps it all up.

We all seem to agree on how ELR should end. That's interesting...

I think the only way it wont happen like that is if they do a spin off minus Ray but with everyone else. Unless he still gets the job but goes alone...

I agree. It would be lame if no one moved and things just 'stayed the same' and it was just another day in the life of the Barones.

I would like to see a spin off of the show so that the remainder of the cast can continue without Ray. Ray is the only one wanting to end it. I would like to see a split. I think Debra should have had enough of Ray and his family for a number of reasons. I would like to see the characters continue with either Debra or Robert as the center. They could continue on indefintely. Robert and Amy could have a kid. And a whole bunch of new stories could arise. With Debra now being available, that would open up the door for a new love interest for her. (like me for instance) LOL

Hmm..well maybe the series finale they had wrote that was going to be used at the end of this season was only just for this season, and since they are going to do another season, they'll can this one and come up with a new one. I hope they do, although we'll never know, but I wouldn't want to hand in a term paper a year later without making any changes.
