Hi everybody, I have a question about a raymond episode thats been bugging me. I don't know the name of the episode but its where Ally is accused of bullying one of her classmates in the school bus, Ray calls Debra " a stupid stinker BM". I was wondering what is a "BM"? thanks in advance.

Compared to Frank's behavior towards Marie, I think Ray's a gentleman. I know Frank's from a different generation and all, but still some of the stuff he says to Marie, like it's her "job" to cook and clean for him (Can Opener) are really uncouth. That also right in front of their children and grandchildren! Ray does make insensitive comments about Debra occasionally but he always realizes his mistakes and apologizes but Frank hardly ever does.

Why do people have a problem with what Frank said?
Do not husbands and wives have "jobs' expectations and desires?
What does a stay at home mom say when asked what she does?
When asked what you do for a living, what does a stay at home mom say?
What does she say, in her own mind, about what her "job" is?
I have no problem with what Frank said. It was his "job" to go to work and provide for his family.
It was her "job" to provide for the home and the children. Each partner does indeed have a job!
What would you call it?

The thing is that comments like it Marie's "job" to cook and clean could be seen as oppressive to women. It's that whole Womens Rights thing and its about the way women are viewed. I personally think it is funny and not offensive because its a sitcom, Frank is a character and I don't care that much.

OK. but offensive to whom and why?
That is great as far as it goes but it does not address my questions.
What do these women who feel that way say when they are asked what their "job" is when they in fact stay home and take care of the home and family? Why do we CHOOSE to be offended by something?
Is not homemaking a perfectly respectable and important "job"?
Are they embarassed to say that is what they do? If so why?
Homemnaking and raising children is THE MOST IMPORTANT job to be done. They are raising the next generation of Americans. How important is that?
I would submit that homemaking (stay at home mom if you will), is THE MOST IMPORTANT "job" one can do!
Why the upset about it?
