On one of the forums I belong to, Television Without Pity, there were many polls regarding best/worst shows, characters, etc. The results started coming out yesterday and today and drum roll...
Everybody Loves Raymond was ranked #2 as The Most Overrated Show.
I agree, considering how lousy and unfunny the show is now compared to how it used to be. Its better than a lot of other shows out there, but the quality has dropped and doesn't deserve the attention it gets. I especially don't think those high salaries are deserved for the dropping quality.
Your take on this?

If people were going by the last two years worth of eps, I wouldn't blame em either.

I am shocked! I can't believe you guys are dissing ELR like that.. Just kidding. ;D While I concur with you guys that the last two seasons of ELR were disappointing compared to previous 6 seasons, I think it is still one of the best shows on TV today. My top 3 overrated shows: 1. Friends 2. American Idol 3. Will and Grace

Will and Grace is bad...I've tried to get into watching that show a few times and just can't do it. I don't find it funny. At all. Even worse is Yes, Dear. That's just awful. Especially when they tried to use other shows to make it funny like when they did the show involving Big Brother, and another one involving A Baby Story. Come on, get your own storylines!

Wow Lauren, what just happened in New Jersey today?

Yah I heard about that. Damn shame. From my perception (which I've had for awhile prior to today's events), he's done a lot of good things for NJ. On the radio I often hear of improvements and changes that are being made their (which makes me envious cause Pataki doesn't do jack shit for NY). Anyways... wouldn't he be bisexual, not gay? Unless err... the old man hasn't been minding the store, as Gianni put it.

Hey Yupi, wow, it was broadcasted in Oklahoma? I was wondering how far the story would travel. Cool.
It was weird, all of a sudden on the NJ local channel they said that the governor was expecting to make a statement and they were talking about it possibly being that he was going to resign. There was no talk of this until minutes before. That was a surprise in itself, I thought it had to do with land bribery and other scandals that happened over the past few months, but then he came on and all of a sudden we here him say he is gay, so I thought that was the announcement. That was a shocker, especially after watching all of the family commercials he made advertising New Jersey. First I thought that was his only announcement, even the news station I was watching at the time changed the caption to something about him being gay and stuff. Then he announced he was resigning.
While he improved some things, one thing he did not improve was the budget for education in NJ. After starting out college with a state scholarship (one that is specifically given out to scholars who go to schools in NJ to encourage NJ school promotion), he sent a letter saying that he amount of the scholarship was being cut, after it was already approved. It's not like it was a large amount in the first place, but come on, first approving an amount only to have it be cut later on. Thankfully, just weeks ago he sent a letter saying the budget allows the amount to go back to what it should be, so I'm happy about that, but still pissed that it was cut in the first place.

Lauren, I first heard the shocker on NBC nightly news and then on other major news channels. Our local stations also briefly covered the news.
In his resignation speech, the Governor made it sound like he was resigning because he thought his sexual orientation, once public, would make it difficult for him to govern the state effectively. In other word, he was basically saying New Jerseyens wouldn’t accept a gay Governor! That excuse is hard to believe in a state like New Jersey. Probably, conceivable down here in OK, but not in New Jersey or New York! As long as he was doing a good job, I don’t think his sexual orientation alone would’ve mattered enough to people of New Jersey to derail his political career. From what I’ve read and heard since his speech, there appears to be deeper reasons behind his decision to quit than him simply being gay. It appears he misused his power to improperly appoint his unqualified lover to several high paying government jobs.
And, what makes him think he’ll be an effective Governor until Nov. 15? If he’s resigning anyway, why not do so immediately so the people of NJ can elect a new Governor in November instead of being saddled with an unelected one until next year?

Sorry! I think that ELR is the greatest thing ever on TV and is not overated. Just look at the ratings! If it were critically acclaimed and NOT watched, I would agree with you. But the ratings don't lie! People are watching like crazy. therefore, it IS a great show by definition. It will go down as one of the greatest and most popular shows ever. And I predict a long life in syndication. Long live ELR and long live PH! Ray and Phil are genius at work! ELR is the best! I love PH!
