Anyone getting this? I've been reading that this is the sort of movie that doesn't do well in theaters but will probably be a huge hit on DVD (kinda like Office Space, Austin Powers 1, etc). I don't know about that, since I haven't seen it but my friend did say it was pretty good. Then again, he's the same guy that thought "Dude where's my car" was hilarious.

I've already blown a lot of money on DVD's this year, so I'll have to wait till it goes down in price.
Unless anyone wants to contribute to the Buy Dan a Mooseport DVD charitable foundation, a not-for-profit organization that seeks to expand the horizons of my DVD viewing experience!

Dan, I saw that movie being sold on the streets of Manhattan a few weeks ago. I will probably rent the movie from Blockbuster on some rainy day. No big urge to see it anytime soon though.

I must say, "Dude, Where's My Car?" was totally different than what I expected. Strange ending.
My favorite part: "And then?...No and then...and then?...and then?...no and then...and then?...no and then...!"
Don't remember much else from that movie. Except that Seann William Scott was in it.

Why am I not seeing the newest message posted by Sam, the thread page says it was posted at 6:00pm, and the last message I'm reading was on May 19th?

Lauren, that was my fault. I'd posted a comment on the movie and then deleted it soon thereafter; that's why it looked like the thread was updated. One of the peculiar features of Proboard.
Anyway, now that the Mooseport is out on DVD, I've been reading up on some of the critics' reviews. Most of them are downright scathing and some of them quite brutal on Ray. Here's a few samples:
"If you need more evidence that transforming small screen success to the movies is diffilcult, look no further than this movie...... bland performance by Romano. He just doesn't have the personality or the screen presence to build a movie around."
"If Ray Romano believes he can break into superstardom in Hollywood with garbage like this, then he better continually pray and treasure all the moments he has on TV, because after his show is cancelled, he'll probably be done forever."
To be sure, there're some positive reviews too but most of them are pretty damning. You know, I've never cared much for the opinions of TV/movie critics. So, in my convoluted way of thinking, that means this movie actually may be good!

I saw the movie way back when it first came out with my boyfriend. Now, I must say, Ray really sucks as an actor (sorry if that pissed anyone off), and didn't necessarily light up the screen, but had a few good moments. I really liked Christine Baranski the best, and then maybe Marcia Gay Harden. But overall, I guess if you're a Ray fan you are obliged to see it, but I wouldn't run out and rent it right away.

Like any other leading man, Ray Romano is going to be Ray Romano no matter what role he plays. He's not a character actor like say... Tom Hanks or Liam Neeson.
That having been to said, Ray Romano's 'style' definitely suits the small screen better than other leading men such as Pierce Brosnan, Tom Cruise, etc.
I think the script was pretty tailored to Ray's low-key goofy style of mannerisms so it didn't seem like bad acting to me. Just the same old same old.

I saw this movie when if first came out and thought it to be a waste of my money. Ray just couldn't pull it off. IMHO, Marcia Gay Harden was the only bright spot of the film. I doubt this film will do much better in DVD sales because it came out the same day as LOTR: ROTK.

well, whatevr happens to Ray in the future, it probably doesn't matter. He now has more money than almost anyone with residuals guaranteed for years. So, I do not think he cares what the critics say LOL
